Spring is Coming

March 5, 2009
After a long cold winter,I think we have turned the corner into Spring. I've been making St. Patrick's Day and Easter cards. For Valentine's Day I sold over 50 cards. Each one was different. I have added a few nestabilities to my tool box and a few new Copics. I try to work everyday even if it's just to clean my space or organize stamps. I've also started hand drawing a few things on cards and doing hand lettering.
Our little cat, Campbell now has a heart murmur that requires medicine 2 times a day.

Sunday September 7, 2008

This is the first blog of an over the hill art teacher who it took 2 years to figure out how to send and e-mail. I'd like to use my blog for posting my artwork. I am mostly a card maker. I found clearance scrapbook paper today at Target. So I made a few cards before supper.

I honestly don't know who would be interested in my blog but it is a great way to journal, vent and display my work.

My son has a unique blog about the activities at Brush Creek in KC, MO. My daughter has a boring everyday blog. But she's the one who is my technical support so I will be incredibly diplomatic from now on.

About me: I am a retired elementary art teacher. I have been married 35 years to a methodical and organized guy name Dave. Our son, Wayne, is married and living in KC while his wife Kari gets her doctorate in Music at the KC Conservatory (UMKC). Our daughter is working for the Ladue Schools. She is rehearsing for Pippin to be performed at the Stray Dog Theatre. We have 2 fantastic cats. The Tuxedo cat ( Ernie) is mentally challenged. We got him at the shelter but a BIG red flag should have been waved because he had been returned twice. Our second cat is a smallish female from a rescue group in the area. She's a brown/gray and white tabby. Her name is Campbell Brown like the CNN newscaster. She's brown and Campbell is my husband's Mother's maiden name. I pretty much spend my days doing whatever I want. After years of teaching it's nice to get dressed at 10 AM and have 2 cups of coffee instead of one on the way to school.

Sometimes I feel like I could crash and burn because I have had several big transitions this year. 1) I retired 2) my husband retired and 3) my Mother died.
I like the flexibile schuedule of retirement but I am miss being around the kids all day. My husband has a certain way of stacking the dishwasher and I have mine (Need I say more?) The toughest thing is losing my Mother in late May 2008. My Dad died nearly 18 years ago. Mom was 90 and she was worn out.
Her mind was sharp but her eyesight was terrible and her hearing was going. She had a major stroke and was in a semi-conscious state for 4 days before she died. I know that's the way she wanted to die and now she doesn't have to worry about who to vote for in the Presidential race....or how to get there...or how to work the voting machine. She was a talented artist and one "smart cookie".
